This paper seeks to analyze the implementation strategies used by Antonio Bonet Castellana (1913-89) in relation to the place and the watermark. We analyze a single project that is located on the Mediterranean coast: Vandellòs Nuclear Power Plant, l'Hospitalet de l'Infant, Tarragona (1967-72). Understanding this architecture means moving beyond the boundaries of the building itself and the plot, and defining the intervention accurately on the geographical scale. This paper defines the site, analyzes the existing components of the landscape and the water cycle, through the water path, from the mountains to the sea. This definition avoids treating this architecture as an isolated building that can be placed anywhere. The relation with the sea, the mountains, the ravines and the mouths are intended to make sense of the project. Bonet's first approach around these landscapes and the first implementation strategies may be timely for its application in current urban planning, urban reactivation and industrial recycling methods. The strategies that we describe are particularly interesting the current landscape deteriorating, which mainly affects to the spanish mediterranean coast, by the rupture between the environment and the architecture; nature and human being.

This paper explores the Architecture of the first generation nuclear power plants in Spain, developed from 1963 to 1972. The spanish power companies selected to renowned architects such as Antonio Fernández Alba, Ignacio Álvarez Castelao and Antonio Bonet Castellana, for the José Cabrera, Santa María de Garoña and Vandellòs nuclear power plants. The proposals of this group of architects altered the urban structure and incorporate in their proposals plastic disciplines, as sculpture and paintings. Nevertheless, the power companies rejected these proposals because of incompatibilities with safety and nuclear technology. Instead, the three architects performed smaller and budget-scale strategies. These interventions are also required to establish a dialog between the geographic scale of the place, the scale of the nuclear power plant and the human scale of the worker.

The Vandellos-I nuclear power station in Tarragona is being decontaminated and dismantled until 2028. In 2028, at the end of the latency period, the final dismantling phase will begin. During this phase the reactor's caisson and internal structures will be removed, thereby freeing the entire site. Carrying out this operation demands a large amount of environmental and economic public resources. The disused structures of the Vandellos-I nuclear power station could be considered part of the recent industrial history awaiting activation in an enclave of scenic interest. This is due to their proximity to the sea and their excellent level of environmental protection since the surrounding area has been necessarily deprived both of tourist activity and urban development. In this article we explore the internal structure of the Vandellos-I nuclear power station as part of the collective memory and as a possible landmark in order to determine whether the site could be used to accommodate new public programmes rather than being dismantled and disappear from the landscape, which is its intended fate according to the government.
